Jacaerys stood at the edge of the floor, his gaze fixed on Helaena, and felt a warmth bloom in his chest that no fire could match. She was everything he had ever dreamed of, and more. He watched as she tilted her head back, laughing at something Lucerys whispered in her ear, and his heart swelled with pride and affection. She was his now, his to love and protect for the rest of his days.
He thought of how lucky he was to have her. Helaena, with her quiet grace and fierce loyalty, her gentle heart and sharp mind. He adored the way she would twirl a strand of her hair when lost in thought, the way her nose crinkled slightly when she smiled, the way she would hum softly to herself when she thought no one was listening. Even her little flaws endeared her to him—the way she sometimes lost track of time when she was reading, the way she would forget to eat when she was too focused on her embroidery.
He wanted her in every way. To kiss her, to hold her, to feel her soft skin beneath his fingertips. He longed for the moment when he could finally take her to their marriage bed, to show her with his touch how much he cherished her, how deeply he desired her.
