“I could’ve killed you, Sir,” Chekov whispered, and he swallowed heavily. Almost as if, up until now, the idea of killing the Captain had only been a vague, abstract thought somewhere in a long-forgotten nightmare. Chekov was right, though. It was a wonder both Spock and him got out alive.
“You could have,” Jim admitted, “-but you didn’t. The danger’s gone. We’re all safe. I’m safe, too.” Jim leaned forward, resting his elbows on his desk. “Ensign, look at me.”
Chekov looked up slowly, meeting his Captain’s gaze.
“I trust you with my life. Not just because you’re one of the most loyal men Starfleet has ever worked with. But also…” Jim hesitated. It’d been a few months since they last fucked. “Because you’re my good boy.”
