Summary
The veil was heavy on his head. The beads clattered against one another with every turn of his head, alongside the distinctly metal sound of his earrings, small silver hoops, occasionally hitting one another. Each of his fingers was anointed with rings; he had only had say in one of them, a golden band with an emerald set on it, a gift from Dorian he still held dear.
The robes were heavy and stiff. They would not always be, the new head of his staff told him, but these were ceremonial. This was all ceremony and ritual.
Ashur understood the importance of both. Still, it felt surreal for this ceremony and ritual to be about him. For he himself to be the key to it all.
