Summary
“An’ what was it? Your thought,” Boyd asks, cracking open an iodine swab and painting the wound and surrounding area carefully. If it hurts, Don doesn't give him any indication. He certainly doesn't lose the crooked little smile on his face, a smile which Boyd knows very well means he's up to no good.
“Well. Thanks to you boys, the whole damn platoon is calling me Wardaddy, these days,” he says, in that same drawl. Boyd snorts. This is true enough, although Boyd had nothing to do with it. “What do you figure that makes you, Bible?”

Summary
After long years of chastity, the words to describe what he and Don do together don't exactly come easy to him - it's why Don teases him like he does, trying his level best to get Boyd talking as shamelessly as he does. But just because Boyd can't quite manage the words, don't mean he don’t know what he wants - and right now, he very much wants to get down on his knees and please Don with his mouth.

Summary
"The way home was long, but it has finally reached its finish line. Looking out of the window, he already recognizes the landscape - the outskirts of his little hometown. It feels strange to be here - everything is so familiar, but at the same time it's like images from another life, as it was ages ago."

Summary
Don is just closing up Boyd's Bible when something else catches his eye - a little note in Boyd's neat handwriting, written in the margin. He pauses, thinking on it. In all their years together, he has never once managed to get his hands on Boyd's Bible for more than a moment - shoving it down when Boyd won't get his nose out of the pages, snatching it out of his hand to smack Grady across the back of the head when he’s misbehaving. He certainly hasn't had the opportunity to peruse it at his leisure, to flip through like he's rifling through Boyd's own head, reading his thoughts right off the page.
Don can’t help himself - in truth, he doesn't even care to try.

Summary
Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:6-8
Boyd knows well and good that Don is just trying to rile him up, hoping to get him stuttering, blushing, or both. But Boyd looks at him, really looks at him, and though Don is smiling like a fox in the henhouse, Boyd can see the lines of exhaustion around his eyes, the tension in his strong, square jaw. He looks like he could use a kind word and a gentle hand, and hadn't Boyd asked the Lord to make him his instrument, not a half hour ago? Help me to shoulder his burdens. Help me give him rest, he'd prayed, and the Lord has answered.

Summary
His gunner is a fine make, in more ways than one. Behind the Fury's 76 mm gun he is unparalleled - killer instincts, a crack shot and a steady, obedient disposition that makes him a goddamn pleasure to command. During a firefight he is quiet, focused, saying not much more than “Roger,” to acknowledge orders, and “On the way!” when he hits the pedal and fires - it is the only time Boyd drops the “yes sir, no sir,” his manners demand, even when Don himself doesn't. These days Don can hear it in his sleep, “On the way!” in Boyd's honey sweet accent, a sign his nightmare is about to end. His gunner's aim is always true.
The rest of him is, to Don's consternation, just as finely made.

Summary
Grady must see something he likes, because his eyes darken. “Yeah,” he growls. He gives Boyd another squeeze, feeling out the shape of him. “Fuck yeah. Tell me whatchu want, I'll give it to ya. Give it to ya real good.”
“Lord in heaven,” Boyd gasps, his hips fighting to rise, trapped beneath Grady's bulk. He doesn't know what he wants, but he knows he likes Grady close like this, when the man isn't set on aggravating him - the heat he puts out like a furnace, the weight of his body, the strength in his hands, hell, even the smell of him, sweat and smoke and engine grease. Getting closer sounds just about right.

Summary
And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely ye give. Matthew 10:7-8
For a moment they are all silent, only the roaring of the tank's engine in the background. Then there's a crackle as a voice comes through. “You sure you ain't rubbing something else, pastor? I mean, I can't see shit from down here, but I know what a man sounds like when he's about to cum - “
Red snorts, but it's Grady who cuts in, his voice a self-satisfied drawl. “You best hope he ain't, or I'mma cum right on the back o’ yer head - “
“Enough!” Don barks. “Coon-Ass, I hear you moan again it'll be the last sound you ever make. Bible, get your ass back in your seat where you belong.”

Summary
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. Galatians 5:13
While Boyd does his mending Don stretches his legs out in front of him, bare feet crossed at the ankle. He lights a cigarette and pulls on it slowly, taking his time. After a bit he gives Boyd a little nudge, reaches over to offer him a draw. His hands still occupied, Boyd just leans in and closes his lips around the filter, takes a good long pull, exhaling a stream of smoke.

Summary
And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16
Among his many fine qualities, Boyd Swan has a habit of being exactly where Don needs him to be, when he needs it - be it with a kind word and a cup of coffee, or a well-aimed high explosive shell. So when Don leaves the command tent and circles back to the Fury with a vague idea of rounding up Boyd and heading to the mess hall, and doesn't find the man waiting on him, he's already irritated.
By the time Don finally finds his gunner, naked as the day he was born and bobbing in the icy river with the crew of the Lucy Sue, he just about swallows his tongue.

Summary
Series
