He can feel Shinbashi‘s eyes on him, watching his every move, closely observing him as he puffs the smoke into the fresh spring air.
“Problem?”
“Not at all! Actually, I am wondering what it’s like. Mind if I…?”
What? Shinbashi wants to try smoking? Now that’s new and unexpected. He doesn’t seem like the type. Well, he can let him have one drag. “Just saying: If you start, you gotta buy your own. I‘m not a charity.”
“Of course!” Shinbashi agrees with an enthusiastic nod.
Futami passes him the cigarette with a cold “Don't drop it” and watches how Shinbashi tries to figure out how smoking works.
At this moment, Futami makes four observations.

Unfortunately, that isn't the case when soon after, people start disappearing in the middle of the night. Futami is increasingly on edge, and for some reason, Shinbashi's return to Kasugamine Academy doesn't make him feel any better.

Being with someone is not at all like he would have expected it to be but in the best way possible. When he would have thought that he would end up alone forever before, he also thought that if he did find someone to be with, it’d be more like one of Tumeragi Senma’s break-up songs; not like one of his actual romantic songs.
But Gawain always did cause expectations to crash into something entirely different.
