*Though our prior experiments were met with failure, any unexpected result provides knowledge, and this one has proven exceptional even in that regard. Though an unfortunate mishap led to King Asgore's adopted child joining me in my fall, I will not deny the spectacular nature of our new discoveries.
*The darkness is suffocating, and yet we see. There is nothing here, and yet here we are. The only way I know to express the marvelousness of this discovery is that in this profound absence of light, an entire new world stretches forth. To say that this revelation is useful is to understate its importance to a repugnant degree.
*This place is not empty. I am told by one of its residents that their royal highness and I are bound by prophecy to save not only their world, but our world in the light above. This comes as no great surprise to me. If it were not I who were to save the kingdom of monsters, then who would?
(It's an AU where instead of getting his shit scrambled, W. D. Gaster falls into a Dark World along with Chara Dreemurr. Essentially, the plot of Deltarune takes place as a canon-divergent prequel to Undertale.)

When Chara Dreemurr lay dying in the Hall of Judgement, all she could think about was seeing Rei again, wrapping her arms around her fluffy brother, and telling him just how sorry she was that she couldn't protect him, that she couldn't protect them all, from her twisted reflection.
What she didn't expect after her eyes shut was for them to open again in an unfamiliar room inside something called a hospital with her wounds cleaned and tended to before being taken into the care of a doppelganger of her mother and what seemed to be a second reflection, named Kris.
What she expected even less was to find herself part of a prophecy that foretold the world's destruction and how it would be saved by Four Heroes: two humans, one a noble warrior, strange and mischievous yet just and brave, the other, a devilish rogue from parts known yet unknown, a monster, brash and bold, and a lonely prince from the dark.
But, what Chara didn't expect least of all, was her and Kris growing closer over the course of their adventures... and coming to see each other not as reflections in some unseen mirror, but as something more, something deeper, something intimate.

Seeing her standing there, her hands clasped in front of her, shedding silent tears, made me want to turn back, made me want to make it okay, but I couldn’t. I had to grow up. I had to move on.
I turned and pushed open the heavy doors. There was a ramp, leading upwards, towards another set of beautiful columns. I took a deep breath and pushed forward.

I took the final step out of the Ruins, and my foot crunched on something white and cold.

It was 23XX.
The endless expanse of the wartorn, darkened world left nothing in the aftermath. As the (presumably) only two individuals that walk on this world, you and Papyrus kept trudging on. It was you two against the world, after all. The undead - both human and monster alike - kept things ... interesting, but in a void-like world, as long as you had your brother, you were okay. Definitely.
That is, until a sudden break in reality - a tear from a fountain. You didn't realize triggering it would send you to another universe? Timeline? All of this - what is this? What is happening?
(This isn't a Sans/Sans, Papyrus/Papyrus, and Sans/Papyrus story!)
