Finding Celeste on the roof of the barracks sends her and Sergeant Graye down memory lane, remember how they first met, along with 2 other memories from when they were 14 and 16, they come to the conclusion that Teamwork can win the war. After all:

"Celeste was there, staring out at the horizon, the foggy orange-pink sunset they had grown used to outlined her silhouette. Her sketchbook and pencils were abandoned beside her. He stood there with his hands in his pockets silently drinking in the scene.
He isn’t sure how long he stared at her, staring at the sun going down, but the colors had changed to a darker pink-blue when the silence was finally broken.
