Robin had been grinning as he’d said it, easy and relaxed as he adjusted his backpack about his shoulders. His good mood had been infectious, but Lizzy had only felt a knot of unease in his stomach as he handed a belt full of ammo to him. No unnecessary risks, remember? he’d warned, resisting the urge to tell Robin he didn’t actually need to go at all, ignoring his promise about the stars.

Niko knows every single one of them off by heart. So too do the rest of the guys, he’s sure. The rules differ according to what their quarry is, but all serve the purpose of protection. Silver charms guard against werewolves and vampires both, iron against the Fair Folk, earplugs to silence a mermaid’s siren call. Silver and iron can also be used as weapons as well as defensive measures, as Niko knows all too well.
They’ve all done this before, so many times they’ve lost track of the numbers.‘

Hannes had slept surprisingly well on the floor
The stranger that had helped them, taken them in during the snowstorm that had overtaken them on the way home from their last gig, had seemed so nice. He had given them warm glogi and blankets and he had fallen asleep before he had even realized that he was so tired.
When he had woken up it was sunny and there was snow covering the trees in fine powder, and while their van was noticeably buried, the road didn't look too bad to drive on.
“I had a really weird dream,” Jani groaned as he came out of the bathroom.
“Me too,” Miki agreed, reaching up as if to make sure his hat was still on his head, which it was.
“Some guy with sharp teeth.” Miki continued.
