Only the impossible can do the impossible…

    As Nicolas knows…

This is basically a love letter from Nicolas de Lenfent’s soul.

Can he reach Lestat right now - Lestat, who has been both inhumanly courageous, and tragically damaged by it?

    Summary

The book sold fast, and Louis de Pointe du Lac hated it. It wasn’t the sales themselves he disliked—no, those were a blessing; he suddenly didn’t know what to do with all his money, which was a relief after years of barely scraping by.
But what decent human being, with even a shred of literary taste, would willingly buy something so utterly vapid as The Vampire Lestat? A memoir, of all things, written by that self-proclaimed “vampire”. Printed on the front, on the last page, being all over the news since September last year. The absurdity of it all was enough to make him want to throw the entire stock into the fireplace.

Admittedly, the author had the looks. And Louis hated him on first sight.

    Until he didn't, that was.

    Summary

Canonically, Lestat never sees any sign of Nicolas’ existence after he dies. Not even when he visits Heaven and Hell itself... the implication is that Nicolas no longer exists in any form. But I thought... What if he did still exist. What if he was always so very there…

Claudia is dying. She turns to Lestat for comfort. Lestat cannot help her… but perhaps some haunt can...

This story explores love between Nicolas, Lestat, Claudia, Madeleine and Louis - across time, life, death, and after. It is a story of memory, grief, and the quiet endurance of love in all its forms: unspoken, unspeakable, unending.

Ghosts linger. Music echoes. Love transforms.

I hope it honours our beloved Nickistat. And I hope it also honours all of these wonderful characters, and varieties of co-existing love - those spoken and unspoken, fulfilled and unresolved. Some loves end. Others become something stranger, and - I hope, more beautiful.

    Summary

A beam crashed behind him with a dull thud. The flames roared like an angry god. The ceiling began to give way in pieces.

Louis hesitated. The blood in his veins felt like ice. His eyes were fixed on that impossible curve, that shocking revelation. He wanted to move forward. To touch. To stay.

But Claudia yanked his arm in desperation. “Louis! There’s no more time! We have to go!”

    And he went.

He left behind the story, the regret, the love...

Lestat remained there, alone in the middle of the fire, hands on his own belly, and eyes full of tears that would never fall.

Nicolas de Lenfent's perspective, starting two nights after Lestat's onstage breakdown at Renaud's till the start of The Children of Darkness.

Follows Half of Myself and Intermezzo, but only requires familiarity with The Vampire Lestat.

Reading The Wings at His Throat first is recommended for the full impact of emotional and symbolic motifs.

If you desire to crawl inside (my) Nicolas de Lenfent's head, heart, and soul and witness what he thought, felt and endured in the wake of Lestat's disappearance - Come with me...

    Summary

Lestat de Lioncourt and Nicolas de Lenfent are 7 years old. One month ago, the priest took them to the place where witches were once burned alive, and told them the old stories.

Lestat returns to his first Catechism Class since then, worried the other boys will mock him for crying.

A quiet boy's unexpected kindness sparks something profound in Lestat's heart. But he barely recognises Nicolas. Nicolas, though, has been waiting for Lestat ever since that day, his young heart full of innocent devotion and understanding.

Lestat wants to be good. Nicolas just wants him to be seen.

But the real lesson is not from the priest, but from these boys, whose uncorrupted souls sense something in each other…

The story is told in three parts: Lestat - Nicolas - Lestat.

And yes, I did want 7-year-old Lestat to introduce himself like he’s James Bond. (He’s BETTER, obviously!)

This is standalone work, but themes and symbolism introduced here are important in "La Chambre Ardente de Mon Cœur."

Content Warnings: Implied childhood trauma, including childhood anxiety/distress, religious trauma/guilt, descriptions of historical witch executions/burning.

    Summary

“But ‘our conversation’ is over forever.” Anne Rice, The Vampire Lestat

A standalone reflection from Nicolas de Lenfent, imagining his response to Lestat’s philosophy of The Savage Garden.

This piece expands upon a moment from The Vampire Lestat, where Nicolas plays his violin, unknowingly stirring memories in Lestat's mind.

What if Nicolas could hear those thoughts, and respond?

This excerpt is from La Chamber Ardente de Mon Cœur, set just after Lestat’s breakdown as a vampire at Renaud’s.

The context here is slightly altered from the original work.

I thought I’d share this for those not interested in a long work but who may be curious about my imagined Nicolas’ response to Lestat’s reflections.

If you’re planning to read the full work, skip this as it’s directly drawn from La Chambre Ardente de Mon Cœur. Only the opening and closing paragraphs are different.

If you read it first: It contains no plot spoilers for the other story, and stands on its own.

Content note (just as I rated it general… though I don’t imagine tiny children wandering into the Vampire Chronicles fics): Emotional/philosophical themes around suffering, art, and love

    Summary

There’s a bar at the end of the world, a liminal space at the edge of time, in a place that doesn't exist on any map, Where gods, monsters, and immortals go to lick their wounds and the broken-hearted gather. Here regret is drowned in aged whiskey, scars are compared , and occasionally drinkers laugh too loudly just to forget.

Each drink poured carries a story, each silence stretches longer than a mortal life. It's not about redemption, it's about remembering, about surviving, about telling the tale with a little more flair than the last time. Pull up a chair. The night is eternal, and misery loves company. A found-family crossover of the beautifully broken, sharp tongues, and bad decisions.

    Summary

    Moonlight…

Shimmering, silver fingers made of nothing but the moon’s softest rays were reaching through an iron lattice as if meaning to extend beyond the bars of a cage.
A beautiful prison; this theater… but a prison nontheless.

It was the hours in which the immortal woke and wandered the earth, a life that was none; yet everything the mortal mind could long for.
Within this infinite darkness a figure, hunched, motionless, was seated beneath the stained glass windows of said theater, its long fingers finely shaped, tenderly caressing the body of a violin with nails so sharp they could have torn each string with ease.
They seemed made of glass or ice, pure perfection with no blemish to them but the dried up mortal blood that framed them.

    Nicolas de Lenfent.
