Summary
Ponder is generally smart but even he makes mistakes. The mistake in question made the whole rest of the faculty jealous. Rincewind soon finds himself unwillingly thrust into another series of events to, in a very roundabout way, pay for that mistake.
What should have been a quick trip to Klatch and back to UU instead turns into a series of events that resemble an adventure a little too closely for Rincewind’s tastes.

It was Hope's turn now, and Hope, she was a practical teacher and her student was entirely unaware that she had been chosen for such an endeavour. Her name was Petty Blue* and all Petty need to succeed in the task she did not know she was doing, was carry on.
* Her actual name was Betty, but her mother had a cold when she was born and so the town registrar heard Petty and it wasn't worth the coins to change it.

William de Worde was not a romantic by nature, in either sense of the word.
Sprawling, verdant grasslands blanketed with daisies, enclosed by majestic pines, standing tall against the barrage of time, while a brook babbled softly in the background, did about as much for him revelation-wise as a half-eaten day-old curry from the Klatchian takeaway next door. He also wasn't one for dating.
Which was why Sacharissa’s insistence on the Times promoting the new fad of a holiday based entirely around mushy feelings and romantic gestures came much to his dismay.

“Vimes…” he murmurs softly, as the arm refuses to aid him in getting up, but rather clings to him and holds him into the embrace.
