Summary
Amathorn's life has always been full. As Gil-galad's chief guard since his childhood on the Isle of Balar there was no way for it not to be. He never found romantic love, and that never bothered him, he was busy.
When he feels the call West half a millennium after Gil-galad's death, he assumes this must mean that he is to be released from the Halls of Mandos and re-embodied soon, and goes to him gladly. This does not turn out to be the case however, and instead, he crosses paths with a beautiful Teleri artist.
Amathorn has lived for over four and a half thousand years. He has never felt like this before. Oh no.
Written for Aspec Arda Week, as a prologue to a yet to be published fic of Gil-galad's rebirth in Valinor. I'm hitting an elf OC with the gay demi hammer after 4.5K years. Enjoy!

Welcome to Cottage Rose! This is my series where I explore characters and lore in the Late Third-Early Fourth Ages through the lens of life on a Nantucket-inspired Tol Eressea. Everything is canon-compliant and won't be explicit (except for jokes). The series centers on Maedhros and Fingon's married life mostly but other characters will appear. Part One is much shorter than I intend for the rest of the series to be, but I wanted to publish it right away to see how it will be received. Hopefully if this goes well we can get all the way to Nerdanel and Feanor and the Dagor Dagorath perhaps....

Summary
Celebrimbor is not healed, may never be truly healed, from what Sauron did to him. But he returned from the Halls of Mandos, returned to Middle-earth, anyway: it is the only way that he can attempt to make amends for the devastating mistake of trusting Annatar and the ruin that his misplaced trust unleashed upon the world.
With the great smith who helped forge the Rings of Power on their side, the Council of Elrond has an option they did not have before. Now Celebrimbor and Frodo Baggins must journey together into darkness, along with a handful of trusty companions, in hopes of unmaking the One Ring before all of Middle-earth is swamped in a war that only Sauron can win.
But wounds of the spirit linger even more than do wounds of the flesh, and Celebrimbor's path through the shadows that Sauron wrought upon the world will be hard. And all the Fellowship will have to face great peril before they will have even the faintest chance of realising this desperate, foolish hope.

Thranduil almost laughs again in his pain-hazed delirium. He is speaking with all the clarity of a drunkard, now— a comparison more apt than he'd like to admit. “Does this look like a healthy wound to you? Every minute the contaminant remains in my body, the poison spreads. It will kill me, Dragonslayer, it does not need your permission for that.”

Erestor never showed his wings to anyone. There wasn't much to look at, anyway. They were misshapen, hanging limply and immobile since he was born. It was easier to bear the speculation he didn't have wings at all than to bear the pity for the ones he had.
But if he wanted to make love with his lover, he would need to bare himself, as he was.
If only Glorfindel would admit that Erestor's wings were nothing of import and move on.

"We change," he murmured. "But not like Hobbits do, I think, no."

“Ugh,” Fingon says when he wakes up. His head feels both tender and thick, and the brilliant golden Tree-light hurts his eyes. He hasn’t felt so bad after a Gathering of the Fruits since the first time his father deemed him old enough to attend. The miruvórë Yavanna makes with her own fair hands from the honey of the undying flowers in her Garden is only offered at the high festivals, and it’s dangerously light, clear, and sparkling. It’s as easy to get swept away by it as it is to find oneself caught in the jaws of an undertow when swimming in the Bay of Eldamar, carried beyond oneself by a sense of wellbeing and mirth as inexorably as being carried out to sea.
“Ugh,” someone agrees, and Fingon rolls over to find Maedhros in his bed, hair a red-brown tangle like seaweed on the pillow and his usually fair face decidedly pallid.
