The iron chain drags across the floor as Tyler moves around the kitchen. After so many years, he’s gotten used to the way it coils on the linoleum floor and wraps around furniture legs. He no longer trips over the links or gets yanked back by the ankle when he runs out of length. Its entire body shivered and then there was a breaking sound, like bones snapping, like skin splitting.
