Summary

It’s midnight when Lan Zhan finally catches up to him - Suibian, terror of the darkness and scourge of the Nightless City, infuriatingly cocky while hidden behind his signature fox mask. The city is its usual bright neon with lights upon endless lights block out any stars that might dare to show their faces, a kaleidoscope of colors blinding anyone who doesn’t know where to look. Lan Zhan knows its streets and hidden parts more than anyone; he’d grown up here, safe in the fluorescent halls of the Cloud Recesses but no less knowing because of it. No one knew the city better than Hanguang-Jun.

The man lowered himself to one knee before Nie Huaisang, piercing the ground with his sword tip to hold it upright, and his other hand forming a fist to clasp over his chest. “On my honour as a knight of Yunmeng Jiang, I, Sir Jiang Wanyin, pledge to fulfill my promise to you. Should I fail, my life is in your hands to do with as you will.”
A ray of sunlight lit up the man from his nose upward, highlighting a lock of hair that nearly hung in his eyes. Nie Huaisang stepped closer to him, reaching out to tuck the lock behind Jiang Wanyin's ear. He was unable to resist the urge to touch his face, moving to cup his jaw in both hands and lift it so their eyes could meet.
“So mote it be, Jiang Wanyin,” he promised. “And you may call me Nie Huaisang.”

Summary
It was gentle, on the corner of Lan Zhan’s mouth, just a brush of lips, a press, and warm breath. He’d thought about kissing Lan Zhan before, of course he had, so many times. Yet nothing he had imagined was as good as this. How was he supposed to go on the rest of his life knowing how soft Lan Zhan’s lips were? How something in his stomach unfurled and opened up, hungry and hot, at a sweet press of their mouths together? There was never going to be a getting over this; he would be ruined for anyone else. He knew that with certainty, just like he knew he was going to do it anyway.
Or: Lan Zhan gets caught in a compromising position, and Wei Ying is more than happy to help him out.

Summary
It's been six years since Wei Ying last saw Lan Zhan; six years of building a safe life for the Dafen Wens, six years of hiding himself from the world, and six years of missing his best friend.
It's a coincidence when Wei Ying finds Lan Zhan in his territory, but one that starts to unravel a trail of dealings and wrongdoings that neither Wei Ying nor Lan Zhan can let lie.
Together, they work to solve the mystery behind the gui attacking humans and animals, finding rot that leads them to unsuspecting places, while Wei Ying realizes that, maybe- just maybe- he sees Lan Zhan as something more than a friend.
