Summary
Whether my vessel can be called a “boat” has been a subject of debate among many of my passengers. After all, these oceans are not made of water, but rather of deep pits of vegetation. The trees here are just as solid as their small and pitiful cousins on land, but they stand thick and tall, reaching down thousands of feet to where their roots break through the surface and coil into the earthy depths. My boat stays on top of the foliage to avoid the Things that Crawl Below, where long teeth and claws ring the edges of amoeba-like sacks of jelly that spend too much time looking above with peeled-grape eyes and considering whether they could digest those who pass above. There are other things down there too, of course, but I don’t want to describe the rest because they’re unsettling.
(A story depicting a voyage across the forests that divide the continents and the dangers encountered on the way.)
