“Hua Cheng. Wants me to pet sit this weekend.”
“Oh, stupendous.” Mu Qing took a glass and some ice, filling it up with water from the tap. His long legs were bare up to the shorts he’d thrown on, and a black, raggedy band tea was knotted against his stomach. “You’re gonna have a lot of fun hanging out with Unfriendly 1 and Unfriendly 2, aren’t you?”
“E’Ming likes me.”
“Uh huh.” Mu Qing came closer, and He Xuan stood up before he could be pulled back into that spider webbing. He wasn’t in the mood for anymore games or taunts. “Where are you going?”
“Back to bed,” he said. “Get dressed, get your stuff, and get out of my hair.” In the bedroom, he collapsed face-first on the bed and shut his eyes. He Xuan worked to block out Mu Qing shuffling around to get changed and leave. He’d be happier when his apartment was sullen and silent again, when he could mope in peace.
