Summary
First Athena thought that the biggest surprise in her life would be when her father nearly killed her for beating his game.
Then she thought it would be her falling in love with Penelope and Odysseus of Ithaca.
Then she was certain it would be when they reciprocated her feelings.
She had no idea that the true biggest surprise would be just how much, and in what ways, she needed them.
And unfortunately, her father was more than willing to show her that. -

Something seemed to come to Apollo’s head. “Athena, what’s the last thing you remember?”
She actually thought about that. “I actually don’t remember much? My brain feels scrambled. I think I remember training with Pallas a few days ago. You know? The mortal? She pushed me into a lake. I made a joke that not everyone were the granddaughters of Poseidon, and Triton asked why we were soaked, and-“
“..That’s enough, thank you.” Apollo interrupted her in a quieter voice than before. Athena didn’t think much of it.

Athena is lucky she made it out of the games alive (well, not whatever the closest thing death was to gods). Maybe she could’ve been just a smidgen more lucky, though. Just enough so that the lightning strike had charred her brain a little to the left, and hadn’t made her memory (and mental age) collapse in on itself.
News flash, gods aren’t particularly the best at babysitting.

Summary
The first time Polites notices a god in the trees, he's not quite sure that it's a god. It just looks like a nudist in a chlamys and helmet. In particular, it looks like a naked man watching his friend train in the field near the forest. Which is definitely suspicious. And he needs to tell Odysseus about that fact. But before he can open his mouth to signal Odysseus discreetly that something's off using their code, a white fluttering stops him.
Wings. The man has multiple sets of wings? Of fuck oh fuck oh fuck, it's a god! What does he want with Odysseus? Athena doesn't walk around nude, and she never takes a male form! I don't know him!
Or
The one in which Polites notices Hermes observing his great grandson and finally confronts him, just to learn it wasn't only the prince who caught his eyes after a while.
(This story spans from Polites and Odysseus being around age twelve until a little bit after the last song of the musical, with Odysseus and Polites in their late 40s to early 50s.)
