The sequel to Mayflowers Can Also Bloom in December, Part 1 of The Kamurocho High SeriesHaruka and Akiyama have been seeing each other for a few months now, and things are going so well for them. Of course, they still have to hide their relationship. Most people wouldn't be so supportive of a 35-year-old man dating his 17-year-old student.
And there are still two major things they have yet to do: They still haven't gone all the way, nor have they told each other "I love you".
But even though sunflowers face the sun, every light has its shadow, and when Haruka's PTSD suddenly and swiftly consumes her after an innocent accident, she's not the only one suffering its teeth.
Meanwhile, Majima has been suspicious of Akiyama and Haruka for some time—of Akiyama since before Haruka even started high school—and he needs some hard and fast evidence of their relationship if he has any hope of protecting her. But The Florist has other plans, and Majima gets dragged back into the underworld farther than he ever wanted to. And now he has more than one woman important to him that he needs to protect at all costs.

Summary
It is Haruka's first year of high school at Kamurocho High. After all of the orphans at Morning Glory were adopted, she and Kiryu returned to Kamurocho. It's a safer city for them now, as Kiryu's first and only act as The Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan was to enact The Great Dissolution with the help of Majima, Kasuga, Daigo, and many others back in 2005.
Now, in the year 2013, many of Kiryu's comrades and compatriots have become part of the staff and leadership of Kamurocho High one way or another.
Including Akiyama, an old friend of Kiryu, and the recipient of a major crush from Haruka. And now she gets to see him all the time as his student in Home Economics. And Akiyama couldn't be happier.
But Haruka's high school career is far from calm and ordinary, despite what she and Kiryu had hoped. Even her first week opens old wounds and shows that the past always has a way of coming back.

They’ve been doing this a lot these last few months. Not exactly like this, of course. The alcohol is a new addition, a novelty, only introduced at her request, and she’d watched Yuta sprint down the road like a criminal trying to smuggle the cans up in broad daylight. But the rest of it is familiar, now, almost routine: shoulder-to-shoulder on the tatami, on her futon, in the kitchen, laughing at everything and nothing. The room’s smaller than what she’d had in Sotenbori, and infinitely shabbier. The tatami is scuffed. The standing fan clicks when she lets it cycle. The only light that gets in is through an ancient, rotting window, one that creaks when she shuts it too quickly, and if the neighbours’ kids walk too quickly, she can hear them through the walls.
She wouldn’t change it a bit.
