“May I….?”
She flinches, doesn’t know what he means to do. Her calves bump the tombstone of James Cambell, dead 13th July 1769, as she tries in vain to create some distance.
Without waiting for an answer his hand touches down on her neck. For a wild moment she thinks he means to clutch and clench. Hurt. Steal air. But instead he places his palm on the side of her throat. His hand is neither warm nor cold, it just is. His touch is light and unobtrusive.
She stands still, feels her pulse beat into his hand and she watches as his gaze turns…away. He is not here in the graveyard with her anymore, she can see it clearly. And those pinpricks of light that she had seen in his eyes when they first met, they are back, and they glow cold like stars.
“I was right. They do not see me like this,” he says in an almost-whisper. His voice is a low rasp, full of vibrations and notes just slightly out of reach.
“What?” she whispers. The question comes out on a cloud of frost. It is cold, suddenly. Next to her Fenn growls softly.
“‘Any number of destinies, any number of outcomes’.”

His words cut deep into Nuala’s chest. She felt wounded, not only because of the dismissal but because she didn’t seem to be wanted anywhere these days.
From being discarded by her own Queen to being sent back for the sake of safety. It wasn’t fair. She wanted to stay and fight but Lord Morpheus truly thought it would be safer for her to return to Faerie and leave him here to die.
He believed the best course of action was to not build an army and to not fight.
Nuala didn’t remember a time where she didn’t fight.

A rewrite of Nuala’s storyline from episode seven onwards because I just wanted to see what one of those other paths Delirium mentioned would look like.

Lucienne approached and looked over her glasses at Titania. “It occurred to me that I have a problem which you and yours are at least partly responsible for,” she said sternly.
“What could that possibly be?” Titania tittered. Oh, Nuala was sure she knew exactly what Lucienne was referring to—that was the giggle she used when she was trying to appear innocent of some mischief she’d created. Nuala herself was still in the dark, but she trusted Lucienne and was sure she’d figure it out shortly.Nuala's hopeless pining for Lucienne and Gault is resolved by a visit to Faerie and some apple pie, and Titania and Puck solve Johanna's problem with baby Jareth, after a little prompting from Lucienne.

The parts that hurt. The vulnerable, gooey ones. If you’re frightening, people don’t touch you. Don’t want to know you. They don’t get close enough to break you.”
