Hookfang did not have a name before Hookfang.
Sure she was called things before the name Hookfang: beast, creature, dragon, worm, devil, fiery-devil. The last two ‘names’ were picked out specifically by the Chief– Stoick the Vast–of the human village. But none of those names were ever hers to keep, to hold close to her heart. Nothing was ever just for her to own, to call herself, to be named. So before she was Hookfang the dragon called herself ‘Monstrous Nightmare’, ‘thing’, ‘it’, or ‘dragon.’
