Summary
In which an Andalite recruit gets a culture implant.
The doctor spoke. “Well, my lad, it comes down to this: your morphogenic field is still fluctuating somewhat, but thanks to Nurse Robinson’s ministrations, you’re stable enough to have a personality. I can’t give you that, but I can lay the groundwork, and that’s what we’re here to do today.”

Summary
In which the events of March and April, 2008, make the Department of Fictional Psychology a difficult place to recover from badfic.
After a minute or so, the sounds of fighting stopped and there came a very polite knock at the door. Again, the nurses exchanged doubtful looks.
“Do assassins knock?” Elms wondered.
“Not usually,” said Nathonea. “For all we know, this might be a stray Black Cat.”
The knock came again.
“Don’t be paranoid,” said Elms. “Let’s see who it is.” And, being closest to the door, she unbarred it, unlocked it, and opened it as far as the latch would allow. “Hello?”
“Hello. Is this the Department of Fictional Psychology?”
“I think the sign on the door says so, so we must be. Can you wait a second? Thanks.” Elms closed the door and looked at her comrades. “Do we know a scary-looking man with half a face, a large sledgehammer, and a weird accent?”

In which Ilraen-Aroline-Fothergill meets Orken 7861.
“Andalite. Agent Ilraen. We are going to be here for the next hour or so, and I have some things I wish to tell you, if you are so inclined.”
Ilraen cast a harried glance at the other agent. The prospect of being closely attended by anyone while trying to master the laundry machine, particularly this enemy of his species, was humiliating, but he could see a great dearth of options. <If that is what you wish,> he answered.

In which Ilraen-Aroline-Fothergill meets Farilan-Haothil-Esthine.
She—she was a she. ... Ilraen felt the blood rushing to his limbs, his brain, his face.
The rational part of his mind, of course, knew that he was just shocked at seeing a female Andalite for the first time. He ought to stop being so silly and say something. Really, his staring was verging on rude.
But all he could manage was <You . . . you’re a female!>

In which Henry Robinson is ten and life in HQ is complicated.
“I want to be a wizard! I want to do stuff, now! And I never want a partner. My classmates are stupid, and if I have to listen to the midgets sing the Happy Assassin Song one more time, I’ll puke and probably die.” Henry seemed pleased with this dire threat.
Jenni planted a hand on her hip. “I doubt that very much. You used to like the Happy Assassin Song.”
“Singing is for babies and Sues.” He didn’t have to see Jenni stiffen or hear her breath hitch to know his calculated strike had worked. He shot up and stalked the few steps to the door.

In which it is seen that a dragon is far too big for Headquarters.
The kender caught up and pushed in front of Dann in time to see a blue streak as Fellrazer banked through the now-stable space and came screaming back toward them.
A normal person would have been frightened out of his wits, but kender are not normal people.
“Hey, Gall!” Earwig cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted, stepping forward. “I think there’s been a misunderstanding! Why don’t you land, and we can talk about it over a nice cup of aaargh!”

“Congratulations,” Thoth said, a trace of humor in his voice. “Your performance was far from ideal, but it shows a modest improvement.”
Derik whipped around to pin him with an injured glare. “Performance? Is that what this is? Do I entertain you?”

Summary
In which an agent recovers a lost mini, pet, or child in his care.
Nume could feel Jenni giving him and the room a good look-over. “I was going to meet Henry and Ilraen in the Courtyard, but Alice said they never showed. I figured they just changed their minds, but . . . Am I going to like the story you’re about to tell me about why Ilraen’s not here and why you slept in your clothes and why there’s a very handsome blanket hanging from your bed?”
“MY blanket!” Luxury popped up from under it and hugged Flanor to her bosom, hissing like a lynx, but when she saw Jenni she relented. “Oh! It’s you!” She let the blanket go and instead flung herself at the nurse. “Good moooorning, you!”
Jenni laughed and hugged her back far too fondly, ending with a kiss. “Hi, Lux! What are you—” She stopped short, blinked, and looked around again. “Wait, what are you doing here? I mean, what are you doing here?”
“It’s a long story,” said Nume, glaring at his coffee.

In which the newest member of FicPsych gets her first client, and he hasn’t heard of Bleeprin yet.
“You know what? I think we agree that this is stupid.” Jenni dropped the clipboard onto the coffee table, where it landed with a clap and a flutter of disturbed pages. “Forget the forms. I don’t need a bunch of paper to tell me you’re wound tighter than a corkscrew. How can I help? Tell me what you think I need to know.”
Supernumerary seemed taken aback by the noise and the sudden loss of procedure. He sat gaping a few moments, his fingers stilled, before pulling himself together again. He adjusted his glasses, gave a sniff, and resettled himself. “Well. The fact of the matter is . . . ” The tapping started up again.
Jenni looked for a pattern—one, six, one, eight, long pause, three, three—but it still seemed random, and she gave up. “Go on.”
“I’ve been forgetting things,” he said in a strangled voice.

Summary
The PPC's city in the mountains of New Caledonia is a pretty good place to grow up, even if you happen to be one of the five half-elven children of an assassin and a pyro. Sure, you still have to go to school, and occasionally there are Flamethrower Incidents in the town square, but on the whole, it's pretty cool.
But sometimes... there are mysteries that need solving.
