“Yes,” Draco said, a bitter clip to his voice.
This surprised Hermione in more ways than one. Sure, Astoria Greengrass was a pureblooded witch, but Hermione thought something like a blood curse would have made her a less attractive choice for the Malfoy heir.
She couldn’t stop herself from asking the next part, politeness be damned. He’d come to investigate them for wrongdoing, perhaps he could do with a little interrogating as well.
“Did that make it easier, knowing it was coming?”
He hadn’t looked away from the garden gate all this time, but she saw his throat work slightly before he answered.
“No.”
