Summary
The noise was grating, a furtid little thing that felt like church bells to his hearing. Something felt fundamentally wrong as soon as the noises started, like a churning that settled in his stomach and grasped at his heart wringing it dry. His eyelids felt light, almost not there, tear ducts working over time as the noise expanded.
He was about to cry, and if that wasn’t anxiety inducing enough, he was about to cry because of a girl eating jello.
A.K.A. My sister keeps playing ASMR in my room even though I've told her I hate it and this is my way of coping.

Summary
“I’m not tired,” Jay insisted whilst trying to disguise a yawn. She sniffled and pushed her hair out of her face. She was comfortable and didn’t want to move. Chip was playing the guitar, the waves were calm and slightly pushing the ship back and forth, there were a few lanterns lit that cast a warm glow over the room. It was comfortable here.
Jay’s eyes slipped shut for a second and it took a lot of willpower to pry them back open again.

Summary
It was understandable, they had been walking for at least an hour or so with very few breaks. Jay already knew that her body would be killing her tomorrow.
So she chalked up the pain in her shoulders to being hunched over for so long, or the chill of the rain affecting her a little more than normal due to being out in it for so long.
But the ache didn’t go away.
If anything it seemed to get worse.

Gillion brought his hand up, curling his fingers around the soggy fabric of his shirt which clung to his skin. “Sometimes it hurts so badly when I look out at the water and I… I don’t… I don’t know what to do… I can’t help but think about the undersea whenever I see things like this.”
“It sounds like you’re homesick, bud,” Chip took Gillion’s other hand, prying his claws away from his palms.

Summary
Jay jerked awake with a strangled sob, her breath catching in her throat. Her eyes widened as she stared at the ceiling, chest heaving and heart practically trying to break out of her chest.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a shaded figure near her bed. Jay sat up quickly, choking back a scream as she jerked away. Her hands scrambled against the covers, searching for anything that could be used.

The monster kicked up a collection of grass as it moved, slamming Gillion against the trunk of a nearby tree with a sickening thud and held him there. Gillion’s head knocked against the wood, his mouth hanging open with a gasp. His cheeks were flushed a darker shade of blue as he squirmed.

Summary
Gillion woke that morning to an ache settling on the top of his head, as he bumped it against the underside of his barrel lid to open it, he quickly jerked back at the shock that ran down his spine. Gillion hissed sharply and reached up to push the lid open on his own.
The ache throbbed like he had been conked a few too many times during training. Gillion stepped out of the barrel, water splashing against the wooden floorboards as he stretched his arms above his head.

“Are you sure that you’re alright?” Chip asked as they saddled up to the bar, “you’re looking a bit moister than usual.”Chip held up three fingers to the bartender, telling the order. His gaze on Gillion barely wavered. Gillion glanced away, his ears flicking and drooping downward.
“That is a good thing, is it not?” Gillion asked.
“I mean, I suppose,” Chip shrugged, “but you’ve also just been pretty quiet. You’re not acting very… Gillion-Tidestrider-like.”
Gillion furrowed his eyebrows, he leaned against the bar top, giving a sharp exhale, “what do you mean?”

Summary
She felt sympathy for him, figuring it was hard on him to have to go through a transformation like that every month.
A few weeks ago he had confided in them how painful it was, especially the few hours leading up to midnight. He had talked—albeit briefly—about how his senses always seemed to be on high alert on full moons, or how he’d get an incredible headache. Or the way energy seemed to plague him relentlessly, bad enough that his hands would shake when sitting still for a few minutes. She couldn’t even imagine how that would feel.

“Do you want to come aboard?” Chip offered.
“I am not supposed to,” they told Chip mysteriously, a conflicted look settling across their face, “so I cannot come ‘aboard’.”
“Who says?” Chip wrinkled his nose, digging his nails into the wooden railing.
They didn’t answer.

Summary
Before she could get any closer, the lid of the barrel shifted and the whole thing wobbled some. Jay furrowed her eyebrows and squinted, trying to decide if she was just seeing things in the darkness.
Was she just overreacting about all this? It was the middle of the night, after all, Gillion was probably just shifting around.
Then, the barrel toppled, the lid skittered across the floor and the water in it splashed everywhere. Gillion spilled out of the water like a wet rag, his claws scraping against the wood. He coughed, his entire body shaking and lurching.
