Luigi had tried being kind, only for the dark Princess to kidnap him and keep him prisoner until he loved her. She keeps him alive for now, wanting his death to be when his heart is hers, but he never gave up hope that his brother would find him despite her saying they gave up long ago.
Hope was a hard thing to kill.

This also raised tensions between Sonic and Shadow, who argued that stopping Mecha Sonic is more important than saving the princess.
However, in this version, the hedgehogs’ dispute escalates, leading to a far unpleasant, barbarous outcome than the original falling-out... 😬
