Summary
It was early.
The first greens of spring had just breached the wet thaw of Kaedweni winter. The wind, while calmed, still held her icy nip, and dredges of hard-packed snow, not quite anchored to the ground, nevertheless were frozen -- floating atop the grass in stiff, crumbling rafts. Long, oppressive nights still clung to the sky, and the surrounding ridges were yet prone to slumping avalanches of snowmelt on the unwary traveler -- not that there were any, outside the rare snow hare or witcher.
So it was not only early, but distinctly and noticeably early (much to his brothers’ delight and his eternal chagrin), that Geralt of Rivia shook himself of his winter coat and began to pack.
