It was an ambush. One Grian should have expected and didn't. Scar was trying to get to him but it was a fruitless venture. Grian tried to tell him to run, but the magic-induced exhaustion was too much to force the words out and he laid there helplessly as the Dogwarts knights pushed Scar back and back. And then Skizzle shoved Scar backwards into a ravine.

Grian is a cautious rebel leader just trying to keep innocent people alive. Scar is a rogue who accidentally fell in with the rebellion and decided to stick around. Rendog is the bloody tyrant who wants them both dead. -

All Martyn had ever known was Dogwarts. When he was born within its walls, when he began training to be a knight when he was 13, even when he had been appointed to the Red King's royal guard, He’d hardly even left the cobblestone border. And this began to bother him. He was the adventurous sort, and there was hardly any adventure left in the small kingdom. He thought joining the King's Royal Guard would fix that, give him that sense of danger, but all he got was guarding the solitary King's throne.
