Sanji had always hated palaces. Always hated the nobility. But he had to suck it all in and accept the job granted by the Empress to work as her palace's head chef when an incident happened that left Baratie in ruins.
A high-paying job that would help rebuild his father's restaurant and more to spare to build his own, endless high-quality ingredients from different parts of the world, he can learn from other cooks of the palace too and experiment with different dishes. Working inside the forbidden city is a dream for many cooks. But Sanji could only bite his cheek.
For all its glitz and glamour, he'd rather dunk his head on the nearest pond than let his guard down. He knows how treacherous this kind of place is. He just hopes he still have his head by the time his contract to this job ends.

Sighing, Zoro turned back around. And froze when there was a guy right in front of him, trying to unlatch the door of a katana display. The guy froze too, staring at him with wide dark eyes from the shadows of his disguise.
Zoro’s jaw dropped in disbelief. Through his shock he deadpanned, “You’re fucking serious?”
The guy blinked, tilted his head, and without breaking eye contact, started fiddling with the latch again.
“I’m right here,” Zoro said incredulously. “I’m right fucking here. What the hell are you doing?”
“Trying to open this,” the guy replied. “Do you know how? My friend told me, but I forgot.”

"I guess you're not such a bad guy," Straw Hat says when he's done eating. Zoro can't even begin to hide the shock plastered on his face. "I'm Luffy, the man who'll become Pirate King." He declares, completely disregarding the fact that he is currently a prisoner in the impenetrable Impel Down. "You?"
"Zoro,"
That's about all he can say. But it seems to be enough as Luffy blasts a grin in his direction.
And with that, Zoro finally finds out - His smile is, by far, more dangerous than his determination.
Or, An alternative universe where Luffy and Zoro never meet in Shells Town. Instead, Zoro is a guard in Impel Down.

Maybe it wasn't healthy to encourage Luffy's habit of overthrowing governments, but the longer Zoro worked in the palace, the more he wanted to just tell his captain "Fuck it, just kill him."
In fact, they could burn the whole castle down. He'd just need enough of a heads up to tell the kitchen staff to clear out, because the Queen's personal chef had grown on him a little more than he'd readily admit. -
