He arrives at the conclusion that he isn’t really meant for undercover work. In a sense, he’d already known it. Nothing about Isabel’s work had ever fascinated him, it brought him no thrill apart from the deceptively similar rush of terror from a single wrong move. He glances to his left. Lucy, however, wears the shine of dopamine, a slight sweat sheen on her forehead, a sparkle in her soft brown eyes, a smile on her lips. Her body rewards her for this kind of work, revels in it. He saw it when she snapped the cuffs on while making the arrest, the keen way her eyes sharpened before she violently threatened the girl from the casino. He was thrown by it, the ease with which she touched him, casual, generous, on the chest, on the arm, draping his arm more snugly around her when he felt uptight, held back by the promises from his reality. What threw him even more was how easy it felt to stay that way, his hands on her body like it belonged there.

"What do we do now?", she asked, longing to hear his rational words. Something that made sense in all the chaos.
Tim cleared his throat, blinking a few times before leaning back in his chair. "Police force all over the country are searching for Rosalind. They will find her." His voice was even, but she knew him enough to notice his tone was forced.
"And how many people will be dead until then?", Lucy asked, her voice shaking. "How many more Beths and Calebs are out there, helping her stay under the radar?"
Tim clenched his jaw. "Lucy-", he began, but she shook her head. "Don't tell me it's all going to be okay, because it's not! Chris almost died, because Rosalind wants to get back at me. I can't- I-"
She closed her eyes, exhaling. "When will this nightmare ever end?"or
Lucy waits for Chris to wake up and Tim is by her side.

“Chen you can’t go home tonight.” Tim declared, “Do you have somewhere you can go?” No way was he letting her back in to that apartment. Lucy shook her head as a no, as he expected.
“Tim, you have space, can you take Lucy with you?” Angela innocently suggested her helpful hint.“Sure,” he said without hesitation. Like keeping Lucy Chen at his side was not his plan all along. “If you are okay with that,” he added quickly, and Lucy smiled up at him.

Tim can’t help but proactively plan how to keep Lucy Chen safe.
But what happens when he finds out Lucy broke up with Chris after the two of them “practiced kissed”, before their Undercover op?
Fortunately things are helped along a little by Angela, who can read Tim like an open book, and Lucy who isn’t afraid of what she wants.
