The ten rings clatter anticlimactically to the ground, their glow fading from a warm orange to a cool, deep blue.
His father lowers his arms, “I have to save her.” He says, emphatic. Imploring. “She’s calling to me.”
“I wish that were true.” Shangqi says, his own voice sad in his ears.
His father shakes his head, jaw clenched, shifting where he stands in frustration.
“Dad, please.” He begs, “Your family needs you.”
His father looks at him with anguish.
“I need you.” He tries.
At the end of Shangqi's fight with his father, the Dweller of Darkness does not find release. Instead, Shangqi and his father do.

Summary
Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste haven't been normal since the second they got their Miraculouses. From getting pulled into the multiverse to saving the world from the multiverse to fighting Adrien's own father, they haven't had much time to just be normal kids. When they go to Shanghai for the Cheng family's yearly trip to China over the summer, they're expecting to have some time to relax.
However, when a voice starts calling out to Marinette that only she can hear, she and Adrien get mixed up in way more family drama than either was expecting.
