Gaz lets out a breath. Nervous.
“Kinda been thinking about something,” he says slowly, like he’s testing the weight of every word.
You keep your eyes on the gash, fingers moving gently now, like you’re afraid the wrong touch might shatter the moment.
“Yeah?”
A pause. Then:
“Would you be mad at me if I… liked you?”
Your hands still completely.
There it is. Laid bare like an open wound. Vulnerable and bleeding and so, so tender.
You finally look at him. He’s not grinning now. No jokes, no masks. Just Kyle — eyes flicking between yours, waiting for the blow, the rejection, the shift that might change everything.
And God, he’s stupid. Stupid and beautiful and kind, and someone you care for so deeply it makes your bones ache, if only he knew it.
Your voice is quiet. Barely above a whisper.
“I don’t think I could ever be mad at you for that.”

When your skin makes contact with his, it clearly surprises him, but you have to admit, it surprises you too.
His hand is bigger and warmer than you expected, even if is not the first time you have touched it. To be honest, you have touched and held Gaz’s hand before but usually just to pass stuff around, or to help each other stand or save each other’s lives in dangerous situations. And most of the time, you two had gloves on, so you weren’t able to feel his warmth or noticr that the size difference was ridiculous.
You mean, you knew that Gaz was a tall man, he always towered you when he stood too close, and that his shoulders were pretty broad when he wasn’t wearing a tactical vest, but fuck’s sake.
This warm feeling spreading all over you wasn’t supposed to happen. (You guess this is what you get when you do things on pure impulse).

After those nightly adventures, you started seeing Ghost as a person. Silly, you know, but before you only saw him as a walking menace. He was tall, intimidating, reserved, and quiet and the few times he talked it was probably to yell an order to you or to say something mean.
But then, you two started doing those things and it felt like two friends hanging out (or whatever). You never told him that, though, and you were sure you weren’t going to soon, not because he was on a mission and you didn’t know when he would be back, but because it was stupid.
Ghost didn’t make or have friends. He was emotionally unavailable. And you were a fool.
You drank your cheap tea in silence.

It’s not often that they get any real downtime lately. Between the endless hunt for Shepherd and their efforts to track down and eliminate the last of the AQ cells, some days it feels like they’re only on base long enough to shower and grab a meal before they’re off on the next hunt. It’s not that big of a problem for Gaz — 141 is his life, he doesn’t really have anything else left these days. So long as he’s got Price’s six, or he and Soap are shoulder to shoulder while they eat or train recruits, he’s exactly where he wants to be. Hell, he’s even gotten to the point of sharing jokes with Ghost, and isn’t that a miracle he never expected. Before Soap showed up, the man was the untouchable nightmare of 141. Now, he’s still a nightmare out in the field, but back at base he’s… softer. Not soft, he’ll never quite be like the rest of them for reasons both obvious and heavily guarded, but having Soap has both tamed Ghost and made him even more unhinged. It’s a delicate balance, but he seems content so long as his Sergeant isn’t off getting himself brutalized in the field.

It’s not exactly a growl, he looks too shocked for that, but it’s not the anger he’s been expecting for the last fifteen minutes or so. His gaze drags from the hat to where Alejandro has his legs stretched out on his bed, and back up to his eyes. He pauses there, looming over him, and swallows hard.

Alejandro finds a cowboy hat in Rodolfo's locker and learns the other man has a hidden talent and love of line dancing, swing dancing, and generally being very attractive and irresistible. He immediately loses all ability to be suave and tags Soap in to be his wingman.
