The largest collection of angel-related artefacts and scriptures is in his father's hands, so he's learned a lot from him until he realised that Wylan canno't read.
But Jan Van Eck doesn't just collect the artefacts, no, he wants a piece of the angels. For his collection, to sell, whatever he can do with it. Ever since Wylan found out just what his father is doing with the angels, he's tried to help them, save them, but to no avail. He's always been too late.
In desperate need of help to get his wings back, Jesper Fahey needs to figure out whether he can trust the humans around him. Kaz absorbs her frenzied words impassively, letting the rattling sounds of the bus fill the silence. Seems like he didn’t even need to go searching for Inej’s lever. She’s perfectly willing to place it right in his hand.
This…agreement would put Inej firmly in his debt, he realizes. Right where he wants her.
Inej seems to take his silence for a negative. She tries again, her eyes silently pleading. “We could help each other. Like—like partners.”
Kaz hums thoughtfully. “Partners in crime?”
“Exactly,” Inej says, her eyes lighting up. “We’ll take Professor Haskell for all he’s worth.”
The decision hardly needs to be made at all.
“Sure,” Kaz says, offhandedly, with a casual shrug for good measure. “The deal is the deal.”

“I’m marrying you someday. No butts, ifs, or ands about it.” his voice was the slightest whisper, barely a brush of air past his lips. A promise.
“Sure, Jes.” Wylan mumbled, mostly unconsious to the world, Jesper’s nearly intelligable voice the only thing keeping him from floating off like a cut balloon. He couldn’t really make out the words, but it wasnt important, was it?

Kaz Brekker, Wylan thought, was a very arrogant man.
Laying out his secret much like a cat lays out a dead animal for its owner, entirely too proud of itself. Of course, Wylan was mortified like the owner would be, but just like the owner this horrible feeling would dissipate and he would be able to throw this secret out like it had never truly mattered. Wylan would just have to hope Kaz didn’t go bringing another dead animal to his feet and leave it for Wylan to clean up.
