And that’s the hardest part, Alex thinks--all the tiny ways his brother hasn’t changed, waiting just under the surface to ambush him as soon as he starts to think he’s come to terms with the fact that they’re never going to be able to pick up where they left off, that they’re both really fucking broken in ways a weekend of beer and blanket forts probably isn’t going to fix.
Not quite a first meeting, but the first in a very long time.

The last two weeks have been a nonstop avalanche of fucked-up: mad scientists and friendly Egyptology professors who turn out to be supervillains, and robots, and honest-to-god fucking dinosaurs, and waking up tied to an altar with a knife against his neck, and his brother is fucking Cyclops; and if he’s been dealing so far, it’s only because he hasn’t taken the time to think about it all at once.
Scott and Alex, in the aftermath.

The photo is of a boy--maybe fourteen or fifteen--with dark hair and dark glasses. He’s slouched in front of an institutional backdrop, and it takes a moment for Hank to connect the living face to the autopsy pictures.
There’s something else familiar about the kid’s face, the shape of the mouth, and Hank is racking his brain, trying to figure out where he knows it from--a former student, maybe?--when Alex speaks up again, voice flat. “It’s my brother.”

Summary
Charles Xavier dedicated his home and inheritance to benefiting mutants - his family estate is not only the location of a school for mutants but a foster home for them as well. The hardest part is having his longterm crush and best friend Erik Lehnsherr at his side when the other man has no idea how he feels about him. That is, until his son, Alex Summers, is missing and presumed dead. Despite having Erik and the rest of his family at his back, Charles isn't sure how he can get through this.
Basically a modern make-your-own-family AU where Cherik raises the X-kids and there's angst everywhere because goddamn do they all have problems. Starting out with the First Class crew and likely adding on as the story goes. Focusing on the absurd amount of drama and feels that surround the Summers boys.
Suggestions welcome. Title from "Dust to Dust" by the Civil Wars.

Summary
Maybe it’s just in combination with the name but suddenly the distant recognition turned horribly familiar. The kid- Scotty- took the sliver of distraction to try and slither out of O’Diamonds’ grasp, eyes still pressed closed. The face was unmistakable.
It's Scott. It's his brother.
“Scott?” Alex asked, all the air suddenly pushed from his lungs in a single breath. Alex hasn’t seen his little brother in years. When Alex had gotten locked up, Scott was just a little kid, clinging to his mom’s leg. Then there was Xavier and the draft and by the time Alex was overseas, knee deep in a tent that smelt like sweat and blood, he got a formal looking letter informing him that his father and stepmother had died in a crash on his dad’s medieval little relic of a plane. There was no forwarding address, no phone number listed for Alex to call and try to take some sort of guardianship over his little brother. They knew what he was and Alex figured the government would never have let a known mutant take custody of a normal kid, even if Alex had been human, he would have been a shitty guardian anyways. Scott deserved better than him.
Alex didn’t know where he thought Scott was-it wasn’t here.

Bookmarker's Notes
This story is about the Summers Brothers as it should have been done in the comics. In those years of the Original X-Men, Scott finds out that Alex is alive. What follows is two brothers, separated by years getting to know each other again. GrayJay does such a wonderful job of giving these brothers an actual history, them being kids and memories of their lives before the crash. Scott and Alex building blanket forts, playing at superheroes. Just being kids. Here they have a foundation for a relation beyond just being blood. GrayJay really makes all of them, not just Scott and Alex into three dimensional people. People with hopes and aspirations and fears and dreams. Here they are people. Very much worth your time to read the entire thing. Not everything is letters like in the first part, the rest of stories between letters. I do recommend that you read the rest of the parts where it indicates in the first part. You'll understand what I mean once you start reading part one.
