Lily is not crazy. “I know your brother’s disappearance has been… Difficult for you. But you can’t go around making these sort of troubling accusations.”
But they’re true, she wants to say, feeling the answer tug at her tongue with restless desperation to be heard. But he already knows this, knows better than even she does, and when she meets his cold, beady eyes, they appear for a moment as red as his playground warden statue’s.
So instead, she takes a slow, deep breath, and focuses on keeping her voice level.
