Hijikata forgot to breathe, at the look in Gintoki’s eyes as he spoke those unnecessary words. A look like what he said just expanded his entire world. A glint in his glassy eyes like he broke a thousand hearts but never a single promise. Like everything would break down without Hijikata having to relive the last five years. A look that left, betrayed, and lost him all at a glance. Hijikata was broken and healed all in one look, one look… leaving him to the overture of shock, gaping at Gintoki.
“You… bastard…”
He knew.
Hijikata hid his pathetic smile, gazing down at the cold hand he didn’t realize he was holding so tightly.
