Johnny looks away, eyes finding Daniel’s hands on the blanket. His knuckles are red and bruised, most of them split open. Johnny remembers how Daniel’s face had crumpled when he told Johnny about the wooden training dummy, how he went pale at the mere reminder. Now here were eight of them, bright and bloody against tan skin.

“A training accident,” a voice in Daniel’s mind echoes in a low, menacing tone. He sees blue eyes flashing like ice, a dark ponytail, and a wide smile. He feels blood dripping between his fingers. The smell of iron assaults him as a smooth hand grabs his wrist and holds Daniel’s trembling hand up, scoffing at the pain and fear Daniel can feel spreading across his face. He remembers how embarrassment had followed, hot shame turning his cheeks pink. Why should he be scared of a little blood?

this started out as me exploring what daniel was doing during the 3-on-1 kk3 lights out fight and then I got attached to the idea of Johnny comforting a spiraling daniel so I have a whole series now haha

Summary
Johnny’s got his life together, things are really looking up. He’s managed to curb his slightly unhealthy drinking habits, fulfill his dream of a lifetime in getting himself his pilot's license, and has an actual steady job.
If you asked anyone else they’d probably tell you it seemed a little too good to be true, but Johnny was the type of guy who was just gonna enjoy it while it lasted…
And then Daniel came barreling back into his life, the same, hopped up smart-mouthed punk he remembered from all those years ago… but maybe with a few changes, like the almost permanent downturn to his lips when he thought no one was looking. The melancholy way he seemed to drown himself in his martinis (which, were a total girls drink) or the way he worked himself to exhaustion at his soulless job at the dealership.
It all unsettled Johnny, had him wanting to insert himself back into Daniel's life… and maybe, just maybe... It had a little to do with the way seeing Daniel again put a sort of fire into the pit of his stomach that he didn’t quite understand, not yet.
