Summary
From the moment I was born, I knew eyes were watching me.
Not in the spiritual sense. Whatever gods may exist did not bless my birth, nor attend it, only mocking me from their gilded thrones. No. What I felt were the eyes of fate itself, or perhaps my mother, drying the blood from my forehead and kissing it. I was a difficult birth, she told me. But it was worth it, in the end.
The end. What a strange place. I never reached it, no matter how much I wanted to, always finding some problem or another I couldn’t tie up. Sweat drips from my brow and stains the pages below. I scrawl over them and watch the ink bleed.
