When Julian is hurt in an assassination attempt, furious Oswald wants the shooter to pay – but Julian recognises her as Amy, a woman he had believed to be dead after his late father's sadistic dinner party game. When he hears her story he realises they have much in common, awakening feelings for Amy that take him by surprise, as Amy is also a victim of experiments at Ashecliffe, and with a slowly progressing terminal condition because of it. But this doesn't stop her from bearing a grudge against Jax for his interrogation methods after the shooting, and hurling vengeful allegations that could end his career...
Meanwhile, Oswald and Molly ask Josh to help get Cain under control, as he poses a threat to the peace of the underworld, driven half mad by grief over the loss of Ronny, as River tries and fails to find a way to bring her back. Then help is offered from an unexpected source – Shepard Lambrick had a twin brother, a controversial scientist familiar with many years working in a similar field to Hugo Strange, but his name is Doctor Herbert West, and he is seeking protection of the Gotham city underworld as he is a wanted man, due to the havoc caused by his previous experiments – to reanimate the dead...

With the escape of the Shadow Lady, the city is at risk and his family also in danger, Oswald is forced to comply with an agreement he made many years before – when he had nothing and no one to lose – as he is forced to fake his death and vanish until the Shadow Lady is captured.
When Molly learns of his apparent suicide, she refuses to believe it could be true, as Oswald has left some clues behind, indicating a very different reason for his disappearance, maybe even linked to his missing daughter Rebecca, as Ed Nygma has his own theory – that Oswald was murdered by the authorities - and begins to lose his grip on sanity as he plots bloody revenge against the GCPD.
Pregnant Julian is devastated at Oswald's apparent death, as Molly vows to uncover the truth. As Molly searches for him she is unaware Oswald has reunited with an old flame, who knows a great deal about Oswald's missing daughter...
Molly's choice to search for answers will take her, Victor, Josh and Ronny on a deadly path that will lead to the Shadow Lady, an enemy like they have never encountered before, who blames Oswald for the loss of their daughter, and will destroy the whole of Gotham unless she can be stopped...

Oswald and Molly are suspicious when Anton Velaska, son of Jeremiah, returns to the mansion and insists he make amends for his father's sins of the past. Then Oswald hands the task of training a young and promising new recruit, 18 year old Ronny Lee Riley, to Josh. But when teenage Cain, who has never been attracted to a guy before, is drawn to wild and reckless Ronny, he turns to Oswald for advice. Jax Sterling begins treatment to beat the toxin that is killing him. With Jax absent, Ronny to handle and the news that Selina is pregnant again, Josh finds the workload hard to manage.
Meanwhile Julian lets Lucy help others with her healing power but her identity is discovered, and she's kidnapped by Anton. Then Josh and Ronny learn Velaska is responsible - the only way to find her is to strike a deal, taking on a dare from Anton, to race their cars up to Dead Man's Hilltop – a high risk that dare devil Ronny is only too keen to accept.
While this is happening, Ivy Pepper's sex-hungry Licker plants have been stolen - leaving her to face possible police charges - as Selina enlists the help of Bruce Wayne to find the real culprit...

Heartbroken Oswald refuses to have him locked away indefinitely in Arkham, instead agreeing to Julian having surgery that will cure his insanity - but leave him as damaged as when he was rescued from Ashecliffe asylum. Refusing to give up on her step son, Molly defies Oswald's decision, rescuing Julian from the hospital and risking her own safety by taking him on the run with her in search of the one person who may be able to save his sanity - Ivy Pepper - as Oswald and his men set off on their trail. But Ivy has become very dangerous since living in seclusion in her poison forest since the days of the war, and Molly's mission of mercy may turn out to be a disaster as she walks into what could be a deadly trap for all concerned...

Oswald rescues his cousin, a victim of experiments with a mutated Tetch virus, who was driven to psychotic behaviour because of it- but is then devastated to learn Julian may not live very long due to the damage caused to him at Shutter Island. But worse is to come as Jeremiah Velaska escapes from Arkham, and as he sets off a bomb in Gotham and kidnaps River Mooney, Oswald and Molly have a heavy fight on their hands – to defeat Velaska, save River, and to stop a manic named Shepard Lambrick from releasing a mutation of the Tetch virus that has been years in secret development at Ashecliffe Asylum on Shutter Island.
