Summary
In a speculative near-future United States of America, a reptilian alien species colloquially known as Dusties have inserted themselves into the US government via military coup. Dusties are named for the pollutant dust they dissolve into on death, sometimes referred to as stardust; stardust pollutes the atmosphere, forcing humans to wear dust masks and respirators outdoors, and blocks wireless signals.
Several years after the initial coup and bombings, July Wright, a fiery sniper with closeted psychosis, and Cass Trehan, a brutally intelligent strategist, are young officers in a paramilitary cult hiding from the Dusty-run government in the subway tunnels of New York City.
When a spaceship crash-lands across the New Jersey border, July is sent to retrieve it before the Dusties--only to discover it's the ship of Aston Martin, the man framed as responsible for the Dusty coup. With access to his information, the Resistance mounts an expedition to assassinate President Taner; a plan that quickly spirals out of control, plunging July and everyone else into a web of intergalactic politics, surreal hallucinatory experiences, other planes of existence--and at the center of it, her long-dead twin sister.

Summary
One year after a failed assassination attempt on the President, July finds herself in a Dusty-run medical research facility, along with a group of familiar faces she'd long since given up on ever seeing again. Separated from Lake, beset by hallucinations, and struggling to balance the reunion with her estranged twin, now the rich and powerful daughter of the Secretary of State, and the reunion with her friends targeted by the United States government, she falls down a rabbit hole where the line between dream and reality is nonexistent, politics and magic blend together, and the cycles of history revolve in endless prophetic circles.
Meanwhile, Sage's arrest leaves Aston to pick up the pieces in the punk house they found refuge in, drawing him back into the world of interplanar politics and storied prophecy--whether he wants it or not. Cas searches for answers, and finds themself embroiled in the fabric of the universe itself, slotted into a role they can barely comprehend. And as for June--well, she's the most important girl in the universe, according to some.
No-one is getting out unchanged.
