Grover stared. There was something gentle in how he looked at her. It made Penelope’s stomach twist because she knew-
“You do love me.” Grover told her. He didn’t loudly announce it because it wasn’t a discovery that needed to declared. He didn’t whisper words either. It wasn’t a secret. “It’s just you don’t love me romantically.”
Seconds dragged by. He kept combing his fingers through her hair. Penelope wanted to melt into the touch. She couldn’t remember the last time someone had touched her outside of fighting a monster. That was her own fault though. She could visit Mom, Paul, and Estelle at any time. It’s just if she did, she was afraid monsters would attack them. Estelle was too young-
“That doesn’t make our relationship less though.”
“I think a lot of people would disagree with you about that, G-man.” Penelope muttered into the mattress. She knew though Grover would still hear her.
“Most mortals think global warming isn’t a thing.”
Penelope snorted. Grover didn’t outright say people were stupid but she knew his views on global warming.
