Rory shakes her head. “You know, this is becoming very much like a Gift of the Magi situation.”
Jess cocks an eyebrow. “Is that right?”
“Yeah, we’re arguing about giving each other stuff that belonged to our respective grandfathers, but they’re stuff that we both like.”
“You know, I think we are going to need more time to settle this.”
“Tell me about it.”
“How about sometime next week?” Jess asks smoothly.
And that pulls Rory short. She looks at him shocked. “Wait, is this a... are you asking me out?”
Jess shrugs again and says, “Well, it’s just- think of it as 2 strangers meeting at a restaurant or a bar, debating about a situation and passing on literature recommendations. No ulterior motives whatsoever.”
“Sounds like a date to me.” Rory says in her best Chandler Bing impression.
Jess grins. “So... Do you want to?”
An AU where Jess and Rory meet and a "Gift of the Magi" premise follows, albeit with a twist...
