Summary
Edwin finally caught a glimpse of Charles’ eyes.
They were dilated, blown giant, the black of his pupils almost reaching the very edge of his irises, leaving only a terribly thin ring of his brown eye color. A new fear seeped into his chest.
"Charles? Charles, talk to me." Edwin begged, helping him to stay upright.
Charles’ mouth moved again, incoherent mumbling escaping his lips, his body lulled back against Edwin's chest as he knelt behind him.
That’s when Edwin suddenly realized. Charles had only had three beers tonight, and half of the one he had abandoned at the bar. That should definitely not be enough alcohol to impair him so drastically.
Charles had been drugged.
Edwin and Charles go clubbing, things take a dark turn when Charles is drugged. Rushed to the hospital, Edwin must care for his friend, but does so at his own expense.

Charles’s hands slide up from his shoulders to either side of his face.
“I promise I will not let Hell take you again, alright?”
Face suddenly ablaze, Edwin nods while drawing his eyebrows inward.

Niko's sister swears to avenge her death before moving to London since that's where her sister last wrote to. She sets up an apothecary so she can plan her revenge when Charles and Edwin interrupt her. To keep them out of her way, she turns them human again. The boys now have to learn what it's like to be alive again while also trying to stop a mass murder from happening. During this Niko is making her way back to them and Charles is realizing his feelings for Edwin go beyond platonic. -

Summary
Charles only joined the high school production of Twelfth Night because they were asking for volunteers. He'd always thought it was pretty silly, how Duke Orsino and Olivia could never tell that Cesario was a girl, despite supposedly being in love with her, but it seemed like a laugh. And it was! All the mistaken identities, love triangles, or love pentagons rather. It's all proper romantic and funny, Charles loved every moment of it. But the best part was Viola. She was his soulmate, he emphatically told Crystal. She'd always sat and spent time with him, she was the best conversationalist, smart as hell and just the best person he'd ever met. Only issue is, now the play is over, he realises he has no way to reach out, and he despairs that he's lost the love of his life.
(In which Charles looks for Viola, Viola is nowhere to be found, Shakespeare cast men to play women, Charles is looking for the girl of his dreams, Edwin is aces at acting and nobody knows why it's called Twelfth Night, but everyone is appropriately confused about it.)

Edwin permits the contact, half due to shock, half due to…ulterior motives. Charles’ hands land on his lapels indeed, and he tugs Edwin into his chest, where he wraps the boy into a rather suffocating hug.

“Edwin, Edwin, Edwin-” Charles is mumbling, he sounds feverish.

(Follow up to Killing Loneliness, You should read that before this if you haven't.)
*Upgraded to Explicit for one scene in the Epilogue. Which is easily skippable if that's not your jam and has no effect on the rest of the story.
Charles starts to notice a change in his best friend. He seems lighter and happier. He even seems to be okay with Charles and Crystal being together now. These are all great things, but Edwin has always been stuck in his ways and it has Charles wondering just what has happened to change things now.
But Edwin won't tell him, and it's got him worried. Not to mention there's some cat hanging about the office now that seems to be Edwin's new best friend, whenever Charles goes out with Crystal. The brawn doesn't trust anything about with the mangy little furball. Things really come to a head when Charles is proven right and the cat turns out to be the one person that he doesn't want within five feet of Edwin, and after their past history he can't understand why Edwin doesn't feel the same. What's worse is Edwin is DEFENDING the Cat King!
