Summary
Martyn decided he’d put his dagger aside to pursue Ren. It wasn’t like he’d consciously raised that blade before. Against any of the lies in love he’d lived, even if so many of them he hadn’t intended to have last. Certainly, in retrospect, not in the way he wanted Ren to last. How desperately he needed Ren to last.
It was an oddly frightening paradox.
Martyn felt like he only had one more try left in him. If he and Ren crashed and burned like so many others, if he broke all over again, he didn’t think he’d ever get pieced back together quite the same. His final turn at the table, and he’d chosen Ren.
In all of this, he discovers that while he's played this game a dozen times, Ren has spent his entire life holding a single card. For Martyn, he'd decided to play it. And Martyn swore he'd endure all the hard moments, brace for any amount of struggle, and clear whatever hurdles it took.
He'd never, ever make Ren lean on second chances.{In which Martyn tries to have honest conversations, Ren is grappling with more than some Shakespeare quotes, Scott gives good relationship advice, Jimmy doesn't know how he wound up here, and there are plenty of surprises left before the curtains fall.}
