J.R. Scheimpough has never believed in the concept of playing with fire.
It’s stupid, far more greed and idiocy than something worth anything at all. He’s seen that hunger in his father, in his grandfather, in graduates before him that are nothing more than names on plaques in his family's gallery, all at one point believing that they were any better than the old money that they sat on. He knows that he’s nothing like them. That he doesn’t play with fire, that he never takes the desperate road.
But Rand Ridley burns, and maybe it’s his own cruel fault that the heat never feels as bad as he remembers.
