The first sign was how silent Naruto became.
The way he walked was inaudible, he stopped screaming and seemed to listen more. Read more, ask more looking as if he was desperate to survive. Even his daily proclamation to be Hokage someday seemed to be swallowed down.
It didn't ring alarm bells to them even when he stopped asking Kakashi to teach him a new jutsu or Sakura for help with academics. It didn't help that Naruto always seemed distant and more tired sometimes or hostile when he stopped Sakura one day from hitting him and asked her to stop hitting him as it hurt. Then when he volunteers to do more D-rank missions with his shadow clones his team shrugs it off at first.
But when Naruto seems to get more distant and tired even it's time for her friends to pick up the pieces of the puzzle and how what's wrong with their resident sunshine in orange. -

Naruto was angered that Sakura, who didn't even try to get stronger, she just wanted to impress Sasuke who didn't even like her. Kushina in the seal saw everything and was able to strike a deal with the Shinigami also known as the Japanese god of death, sister to Kami and Yami. She (Kushina) can talk to Naruto and train and teach him anything she knows as long as the Shinigami is allowed to give Naruto a very special Dojutsu, called the Senrigan. I saw a fanfic work on this concept of Naruto having Rukia’s powers from Bleach. I thought this was a cool idea so I tried reading it. Tried. I’m just going to say as an asexual person who likes to live on the more fem side of things that the writing was incredibly creepy and I was too skeeved out by the third chapter to continue reading it. Thats not even mentioning the really weird lengths the author went to to justify some of the unusual elements of it.
I’m sure there are other works on the same concept but I was inspired enough by the idea to try my hand at it myself. I hope you all like it.
Yes this means I have managed to write a Naruto AU with multiple completed chapters.
