Summary
A stateless young woman named Rinoa Heartilly is found adrift in a bizarre starship in the Old Worlds after she is hyperdicted, but not destroyed, by a Thargoid interceptor. It is found that she has jumped to the Bubble along an impossible vector. Rinoa’s mind is shattered by the mysterious events that lead up to her predicament, but to her great fortune she is not without familiar allies in this hostile and alien universe.
The desperate homebound journey of Rinoa and her friends mystifies a galaxy which, already teetering on the knife’s edge, transfixes itself on their possession of her as it lusts for its transcendence. At stake is everything everyone ever was, and that they ever will be.
