The touch is sweet. That comforting feeling of Charles' hands could put him to sleep -- did, a couple times, three months ago, when they bunked together after Charles joined up. Javier would spin stories and Charles would listen quietly. "Am I bothering you?" he would ask, and Charles would smile and laugh breathily into the quiet of the tent, "No, it's interesting."

Was it when she asked about its builders? When she asked its first moment of true awareness? It does not know what to say, how to convey this to her. It does not know how to express the warmth it feels at their correspondence. It does not know how to express the surge of joy it feels when it causes those radio wave laughs. How can it possibly come close to describing the emotions it feels when it speaks to her in the way that all spacefaring vessels speak? Through simple phrases and images and data packets rife with feelings. It wonders if that could possibly be enough.

There was a reason most not only did not have a cure, but no one rushed to find one either; not only were they rarely ever fatal, but often, a wakeup call for when one should move on from a fruitless love.
Of course they brought pain, but few things in life didn’t. Humans were overdramatic, is all. And Kaito was anything but.
Seeing countless people close to him fall prey to them, and eventually even himself, did little to halt his curious musings on it. Some would joke that, perhaps, that made Kaito the most romantic person they would ever know.
