Summary
Winifred Trumper had always drawn glances when she walked into a chess tournament. When she was a child it had been because of her age, and as she had matured the focus had shifted towards her gender. These days, she liked to think it was because of her skill. She was world champion and acted like it. Some people thought that was a shameful thing, for a woman to be so arrogant, but what would have been the point in winning if she didn’t let it get to her head?
Or, The American and The Russian are women. This changes things but perhaps not as much as expected.
