"Good," she texted back. Tossed her phone halfway across the room, it landed softly on the carpet. Her cheeks heated. A phrase she learned in Latin that day resurfaced in her mind:
"Medio tutissimus ibis - you will go most safely in the middle."
Neither of them had ever been good at safe. Or finding a middle ground.
