Summary
Takes place late winter in 1890s, NYC (The Gilded Age) - Upper East Side, 5th Avenue. At a flashy railroad tycoon’s ball inside a Fifth Avenue mansion, where a sheltered heiress slips to the terrace to breathe and meets Luigi Mangione. Who is an impossibly composed, very old vampire who keeps to the night and New York’s quieter edges (Delmonico’s, the opera, closed-curtain townhouses). Sparks and secrets pull them into a nocturnal courtship. Terrace whispers lead to a candlelit bedroom where he asks for invitation, offers restraint, and worships rather than takes. Their first night marks the beginning of a tender, dangerous romance that include letters by candlelight, flowers that bloom after dusk, and a vow to navigate society’s rules by moonlight until she decides the future on her own terms.
