It feels necessary, given how he’s treated Wade in the past. Like Peter was better than him because he had a morally superior code of ethics. The mask was like a wall that Wade hadn’t earned the right to see behind yet.
But that was all pretending. Making himself feel better. It was never Wade’s job to break down the bricks or to prove anything to Peter; it was Peter’s to stop acting like the line between him and Wade wasn’t already paper thin.
