Summary
He wants to wonder whether it's an animal of some sort. A raccoon trying to fit its clever little hands into the seam of the trunk hatch. But the headlights that blare through the back windshield when he sits up tell another story entirely.
Is someone trying to strip my car? Jay turns, clumsy, to get a hand on the driver's seat from behind. To haul himself up, start the engine and scare the stranger (strangers?) off, but he wobbles to the side just as the hatch swings open and up.
